Last month, OB4C team member Adam Nashban was a judge for a Climatethon: Teen Climate Initiative Challenge, organized by the Future Climate Collective.
Six area schools submitted briefs, with the idea of acting as specialist consultants to the City of Portland’s Department of Urban Forestry to develop a data-driven solution to manage our declining urban forest.
The goal wasn’t not just to plan for more trees, but to plan for a healthier urban forest by supporting the full ecosystem—through planting, undergrowth, and other strategies that sustain the canopy.
You can read more about the briefs they wrote here! There are some great ideas coming from local high schoolers—and it’s critical to engage them early, as they will be among those most impacted by climate change.
