Oregon Business for Climate members recently toured Portland General Electric’s Integrated Operations Center (IOC) in Tualatin for an exclusive behind-the-scenes look at the technology, people, and systems that keep Oregon’s electric grid operating safely and reliably.
During the tour, attendees learned how PGE coordinates real-time grid operations, power generation, energy storage, transmission and distribution systems, emergency response, and energy markets from its state-of-the-art operations center. As Oregon’s energy system continues to evolve with distributed energy resources, battery storage, electric vehicles, increasing electrification, and growing cybersecurity challenges, the IOC plays a critical role in maintaining a reliable, resilient, and secure electric grid for more than 900,000 customers statewide.
The tour also provided members with valuable insight into the opportunities and challenges shaping Oregon’s energy future and the collaboration required to support a cleaner, more resilient electric system.
